Introduction

Welcome to the APC Feed Integration Guide. This guide will walk you through the process of integrating our RSS feeds into your existing WordPress blog. All questions and comments regarding this article can be sent to apc@**xlabor.com. The copyright to this page is held by David Hall.

Integration Requirements
RSS technology allows users to syndicate content on their sites, browsers and more. With a successful integration, you can have your site updated daily, hands-free, with our content including your referral code for tracking sales. For more information about RSS technology, see XML.com's What is RSS? article.
Use of our feeds has some requirements:

The WordPress software requires PHP, FTP Access and a MySQL database. The script itself is very simple to install and can be done in 5 minutes. For help installing, visit WordPress.org's Installation Guide or simply contact me and I will be happy to assist you.

The Integration Script

For RSS integration into WordPress, I recommend FeedWordPress. There are other tools for integration, but I have found that FeedWordPress works well and is the easiest to use. It's also free. FeedWordPress is compatible with BOTH WordPress 1.5 and 2.0. In this section we will be installing a setting up the script.

Download FeedWordPress
FeedWordPress 0.98 in ZIP Format or FeedWordPress 0.98 in TAR.GZ Format

Script Installation
After you complete the download and extract the archive, find these files:

1. Upload these files to your server.
update-feeds.php goes in your wp-content/ folder.
feedwordpress.php goes in your wp-content/plugins/ folder.

2. Login to your WordPress Admin and Activate the plugin.

Choosing Your Feeds

It is very important that you choose appropriate feeds for your blog. In this are you will learn how to choose the correct feed for your blog.
HardSexBlog.com was our first Free Hosted Blog and does very well for our affiliates. The majority of HSB posts are in categories Hardcore, Creampie and Blowjob. We currently have full RSS feeds and category RSS feeds.

Full RSS Feed - All Posts
Use this feed if you have a general hardcore niche blog. I have recieved quite a few comments from affiliates about this general feed working well on teen niche blogs as well, but every blog is different. I will create niche categories on the blog for you if needed, upon request.
Feed URL: http://www.hardsexblog.com/?feed=rss2&x=USERNAME
Note that Feed URL. Make sure to replace USERNAME with your APC username. If you do not have one, visit www.adultplayersclub.com.

Category RSS Feed
Use this feed to syndicate only selected niche posts. If you need another niche added, please contact me.
Blowjob Feed URL: http://www.hardsexblog.com/?cat=3&feed=rss2&x=USERNAME
Creampie Feed URL: http://www.hardsexblog.com/?cat=2&feed=rss2&x=USERNAME
Note the Feed URL you want to use. Make sure to replace USERNAME with your APC username. If you do not have one, visit www.adultplayersclub.com.

Once you have selected a feed to use, move on to the next section.

Putting It All Together

In this section we will be wrapping up the integration and going over some key considerations.

Feed Activation
Now that you have selected a feed to use, we can now activate it on your blog and bring in the first wave of posts.

Feed Setup
We will now configure your blog to use this feed. You must first ask yourself if you want the syndicated posts to post to their own set categories, or a specific category of yours. I recommend allowing the plugin to create categories as it sees fit, and post them in the appropriate section. You can read about how to do that in the Extra section of this guide. This section will cover the basics of getting your feed in your blog.

Syndication Settings

Initial Syndication
We can now bring in the first wave of posts. Please refer to the Extra section of this guide for important information about updating.

Doing this will add the posts to your blog. Check your blog to make sure it went smooth. If it did not, make sure your Settings are correct and contact me for help.

Extra

This section covers various topics not addressed above, including scheduling updates with cron, organizing syndicated posts and more.

Automatic Updates
The FeedWordPress plugin by default will NOT update feeds automatically, meaning if you do not schedule updates then you will have to run update-feeds.php everyday. To do automatic updates you need cron access, or contact your host to set it up.

If you can create a crontab on your web host, then the best thing to do is to create a cron job that will run update-feeds.php through the PHP command-line interface. For example, if you have WordPress installed in ~/www/wp (where ~ is your home directory), you might insert the following line into your crontab:

25 * * * * cd $HOME/www/wp/wp-content ; php -q update-feeds.php

Syndicated Post Categories
Using the default setup you did in the Syndication Settings section of this guide, the feed will be posted in categories that are automatically created by the plugin depending on what the original post's category was. For example, a post about Creampie Surprise was posted in the Creampie category on HardSexBlog.com, and will be posted in the Creampie category on YOUR blog. The category would be created automatically if it does not exist.

You can also set up the plugin to post the feed to one set category:

Deleting A Feed
You can choose to delete any feed you add. Deleting a feed will both unsubscribe from the feed and delete ALL posts from that feed.

Getting More Help
I am happy to answer any questions you have about our feeds and integration, or anything else.
